Custom Shaders Patch Graphics

If you have CSP installed (strongly recommended):

Content Manager → Settings → Custom Shaders Patch:

  • Preset: Choose based on PC:
    • Budget: "Performance"
    • Mid-range: "Quality"
    • High-end: "Maximum" or "Ultra"
  • Real Mirrors: On (much better rear view)
  • Smart Shadows: On
  • Extra FX: On (rain, lights, etc.)
  • SSAO: On (ambient shadows)
  • God Rays: On (light shafts)

Part 2: Steering Wheel Setup

Initial Wheel Configuration

  1. Connect your wheel and install drivers (Logitech G Hub, Thrustmaster Control Panel, etc.)
  2. Open Content Manager → Settings → Assetto Corsa → Controls
  3. Click Setup New Controller
  4. Follow wizard:
    • Turn wheel left → right
    • Press gas → brake → clutch
    • Map all buttons (shift up/down, look left/right, etc.)
  5. Save the profile with a name (e.g., "G29_Main")

Force Feedback (FFB) Settings

The most important settings for realistic wheel feel:

Basic FFB Settings:

  • FFB Gain: Start at 60-70%
    • Too low: No feeling from the wheel
    • Too high: Clipping (loss of detail)
    • Adjust per car - some need more, some less
  • Minimum FFB: 0% (zero)
  • Filter FFB: 0% (unless wheel is noisy)
  • Damper: 0%
  • Kerb Effects: 50-100% (personal preference)
  • Road Effects: 50-100%
  • Slip Effect: 0%

⚠️ Important: Turn OFF any FFB in your wheel's driver software. AC should control all FFB.

FFB Per Wheel Type

Logitech G29/G920/G923

  • FFB Gain: 80-100%
  • Filter: 5% (reduces notchy feeling)
  • Kerb/Road: 80%
  • Note: These wheels are strong, can handle high gain

Thrustmaster T150/TMX

  • FFB Gain: 70-85%
  • Filter: 0%
  • Kerb/Road: 60-80%
  • Note: Hybrid belt/gear, moderate strength

Thrustmaster T300/TX

  • FFB Gain: 65-80%
  • Filter: 0%
  • Kerb/Road: 70-90%
  • Note: Smooth belt-driven, very detailed

Direct Drive (Fanatec DD, Moza, Simucube)

  • FFB Gain: 40-60% (very strong motors)
  • Filter: 0%
  • Kerb/Road: 50-70%
  • Note: Incredibly detailed, adjust carefully

Testing Your FFB

  1. Choose a car you know (BMW M3 E92 is good)
  2. Drive on a bumpy track (Nordschleife, Imola)
  3. You should feel:
    • Bumps and kerbs
    • Weight transfer in corners
    • Loss of grip before sliding
    • Different surfaces (smooth tarmac vs rough)
  4. If wheel feels too light: Increase FFB Gain
  5. If wheel feels "dead" or clipping: Decrease FFB Gain
  6. Enable FFB Clipping App to see if you're clipping (red bar)

Part 3: Controller & Keyboard Setup

Xbox/PlayStation Controller

Recommended Settings:

  • Steering: Left stick (analog)
  • Acceleration: Right trigger (analog)
  • Brake: Left trigger (analog)
  • Shift Up: Right bumper
  • Shift Down: Left bumper
  • Look Left/Right: Right stick
  • Handbrake: A button

Controller Assists (Enable these!):

  • Steering Assist: 30-50%
  • Auto-Blip: On
  • ABS: Factory
  • Traction Control: Factory or higher
  • Stability Control: Off (makes cars unpredictable)

Keyboard Controls

Default Keyboard Mapping:

  • Steer Left/Right: A / D
  • Accelerate: W
  • Brake: S
  • Shift Up/Down: Q / E
  • Handbrake: Space
  • Clutch: Shift
  • Look Left/Right: Arrow Keys

Keyboard Assists: Max out all assists. Keyboard is very difficult - consider upgrading to a controller or wheel.

Part 4: Camera & HUD Settings

Camera Views

Press F1-F6 to cycle camera views:

  • F1 - Cockpit View: Most immersive, see dashboard
  • F5 - Bonnet/Hood View: Good visibility, popular for racing
  • F6 - Chase Cam: Third-person view (less realistic)

Adjusting Camera:

  • In cockpit view, hold Ctrl + Arrow Keys to move camera
  • Ctrl + Numpad +/- to adjust FOV (field of view)
  • CSP allows saving custom camera positions per car

HUD Configuration

Press Home key to open Apps menu, then enable:

  • Essentials:
    • Timing App (lap times, delta)
    • Pedals App (see throttle/brake input)
    • Gear/Speed indicator (if not using cockpit view)
  • Optional:
    • Track Map
    • Tire Info (temperatures, wear)
    • Damage Displayer

Drag apps to reposition. Less is more - don't clutter your screen!

Part 5: In-Game Assists

Beginner Settings:

  • ABS: Factory (prevents wheel lock)
  • Traction Control: Factory or higher
  • Auto-Clutch: On
  • Auto-Blip: On (helps downshifts)
  • Stability Control: Off (weird handling)
  • Ideal Line: On while learning tracks

As You Improve:

  • Gradually reduce TC and ABS
  • Turn off ideal line (learn by feeling)
  • Eventually try no assists for full immersion

Quick Troubleshooting

Wheel Not Detected

  • Install manufacturer drivers
  • Restart AC after connecting wheel
  • Set wheel to PC mode (check manual)
  • Try different USB ports

FFB Feels Wrong

  • Disable FFB in wheel drivers
  • Check cables are fully connected
  • Different cars feel different (some have heavy steering)
  • Enable FFB Clipping App to check for clipping
