1Understanding Assetto Corsa

What is Assetto Corsa?

Assetto Corsa (Italian for "Racing Setup") is a realistic racing simulator developed by Kunos Simulazioni and released in 2014. Despite being over a decade old, it remains one of the most popular sim racing titles in 2026 thanks to its exceptional physics, laser-scanned tracks, and—most importantly—its incredibly active modding community.

While the base game includes around 180 cars and 50 track configurations, the modding community has created tens of thousands of additional cars, tracks, skins, and enhancements. From legendary F1 cars to Japanese drift missiles, from Nordschleife traffic simulations to Japanese touge roads—if you can imagine it, there's probably a mod for it.

Why You'll Love It

  • • Incredibly realistic physics and force feedback
  • • Thousands of free mods (cars, tracks, skins)
  • • Active online community with racing leagues
  • • Works on mid-range PCs with good performance
  • • Regularly $5-15 on Steam sales
  • • VR support for immersive racing

AC vs AC Competizione

Assetto Corsa (2014) - Open-ended with unlimited mod support. This is what we cover.

Assetto Corsa Competizione (2019) - Official GT3/GT4 only, limited to licensed content. Different game entirely.

2Purchase and Install the Game

Buying Assetto Corsa

Assetto Corsa is available exclusively on Steam for PC. We highly recommend buying the Ultimate Edition which includes all DLC packs, as many mods require DLC content as a base.

Pro Tip: Wait for Sales

The Ultimate Edition regularly goes on sale for $8-15 during Steam sales (Summer, Winter, Halloween). At full price it's ~$40, so waiting for a sale saves you significant money.

DLC Packs Included in Ultimate Edition:

  • Dream Pack 1-3 - Premium cars and tracks (Nordschleife!)
  • Japanese Pack - JDM legends (Supra, NSX, Silvia)
  • Red Pack - Ferrari collection
  • Tripl3 Pack - Alfa Romeo, McLaren P1, more
  • Porsche Pack 1-3 - Complete Porsche lineup
  • Ready to Race Pack - Race cars and GT machines
  • Ferrari 70th Anniversary - Classic Ferraris

Finding Your Installation Directory

After installation, you'll need to know where Assetto Corsa is installed. This is essential for manual mod installation.

Default Steam Location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\

Quick Access: In Steam, right-click Assetto Corsa → Manage → Browse Local Files
